Trolling Ravindra Jadeja for supporting BJP shows intolerance – Times of India
NEW DELHI. Cricketer
Ravindra Jadeja today expressed his support for the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on micro-blogging platform Twitter.

“I support BJP,” Jadeja said in a short tweet, tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wife Rivaba Jadeja, who recently joined the BJP.

However the
Chennai Super Kings allrounder was attacked and abused by a section of Twitterati, who were opposed to his political views.

Here’s how the Saurashtra cricketer was trolled and why it shows intolerance:

Troll Attack 1: He should be apolitical, he is a political clown

Let us remind these trolls, in case they have forgotten, that India is a democracy. Every individual has the freedom to support any politician/political ideology, and be open about it. Being a public figure doesn’t take away this right from Jadeja.

In fact, if
600 artistes can appeal to the nation not to elect the current regime again, if
900 artistes can appeal to the nation to vote for PM Modi again, Jadeja can also extend his support to any political party he believes in.

Troll Attack 2: Jadeja got selected in World Cup squad because of his support

As pointed by many Twitter users, Jadeja tweeted his support for BJP well after the BCCI announced the 15-member Indian World Cup squad.

Such comments make it appear as if the institutions or sports bodies in our country have been compromised, which is incorrect. By the same logic, Gambhir (who recently joined BJP) should’ve been recalled and made captain of the side replacing Virat Kohli.

Troll Attack 3: Jadeja is a fascist and a sanghi

You can’t label someone just because you don’t agree with their political opinion. It is laughable that these people who usually complain about the “rising intolerance in India” are actually being intolerant to an individual’s political views.

Troll Attack 4: His sister and father has joined Congress

In fact, this only strengthens our previous point that in a democracy everyone can make a choice. Jadeja’s family with divided political opinions is the most beautiful example of this.

By dragging his family into this, trolls have contradicted themselves.
